Investment Management and Portfolio Implementation
At WSG we believe that an investment portfolio is first and foremost a vehicle designed to help our clients successfully get from Point A to Point B. All clients have financial goals, whether it is college education for their children, purchase of a new home, starting a business, retirement with financial independence, etc. Each goal is unique in its time frame and dollars required. No matter what the specific goal, our clients engage us to assist them in reaching or exceeding it in a manner that will be most comfortable for them. Because we are goal focused, the construction of any investment portfolio is designed specifically around meeting our client's objectives. This requires the careful integration of investments whose attributes (risk and reward) correlate in a manner that has the highest statistical probability of generating the necessary future dollars to reach the goal. WSG uses a planning tool called "Monte Carlo simulation" that forecasts 1000 lifetime scenarios assuming randomly occurring investment performance based upon the underlying investments selected for the portfolio. While not guaranteed, this tool allows us to draw some reasonable conclusions as to how well a specific portfolio is expected to perform in helping our clients achieve their specific financial goals. In constructing a portfolio, WSG professionals draw from a wide range of investment vehicles including; Open and Closed End Mutual Funds; Exchange Traded Funds; Unit Investment Trusts; Real Estate Investment Trusts and Limited Partnerships; Variable and Fixed Annuities; Variable and Fixed Life Insurance; and Third Party Asset Manager Accounts. Every portfolio is uniquely customized for a client in both the selection of investment vehicles and the asset classes included. WSG professionals believe in dynamic asset allocation. This is a process that attempts to seize on investment opportunities regardless of the market environment. We understand that most client's have a low tolerance for market volatility and a much shorter time horizon for meeting goals than do institutional accounts like defined benefit plans. For this reason, our asset allocation decisions are not static. They are continually evaluated and updated using the most current research and product design. We like to "think out of the box" in designing portfolios; we will blend a reasonable allocation to alternative strategies(e.g. commodities, precious metals, real estate, oil & gas and hedge funds) into an array of traditional investments.
